A spark of inspiration in the heart of the medina...
Hello there! I'm Kate George, and I'm the founder of Little Silver Star Designs, which I launched back in 2014, right after welcoming my first child into the world. My journey into the world of jewellery design actually began in 2009, during a transformative trip to Tiznit, the jewellery capital of Morocco. As I stepped into an enchanting jewellery shop, something just clicked within me—I knew instantly that this was what I wanted to pursue. Upon returning home, I wasted no time and promptly ordered a beginner's jewellery making kit from eBay. And as they say, the rest is history!
From fabric to metal!
I studied Fashion and Textile Management at Nottingham Trent University from 2007 to 2010. Despite enjoying my degree, I soon realised that the fashion industry wasn't where I wanted to be. After my trip to Morrocco I had delved into jewellery making, and it resonated with me unlike anything before.
When I graduated, I embarked on a two-year journey of travel, all the while continuing to hone my craft, collecting beads and gems and learning new techniques. It wasn't until I came home to the UK and the arrival of my daughter in 2012 that I finally gathered the necessary tools to venture into metal jewellery making.
Motivated by my love for her and the desire to provide a better life for my family, I found the courage to showcase and sell my creations, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter in my creative journey.
Fast forward to today
Now, I live in the creative city of Bristol with my partner and our two children. Little Silver Star has its own workshop close to my house. After 10 years in business, I have developed my personal style and am proud to have created a collection of fine jewellery that is playful, colourful, and unique.
Inspirations come from colour, nature, the sky, mythology, Japan, and anime.
In addition to creating beautiful jewellery, I also offer jewellery workshops and extend a warm welcome to students to come and start their own jewellery journeys with me!
